PDF

for common people PDF just mean "portable document format" (ITs and COMPI persons know it well i suppose). But this has a different meaning in science as "post-doctoral fellow"
So what is it really? Its a kind of temporary research job done after PhD. Basically its the same u do what u did in phd days and its just the name change. here too you are independent (may be totally independent than from the phd days) and dissolve, heat, cool and throw up in sinks a lot junk of chemicals to get a few milligrams or grams of some useful(???)chemical compounds.
I dont find such things in our country except IISc and TIFR. Now...commin to the point...
By the time u finish ur phd (say after a minimum of 5-6 yrs) u might be ~28 years old. and we search for opportunities abroad to do PDF. People who r lucky have their time started good enough with the new culture being introduced at the host site. Somehow i could c all pdf's face r not really bright eventhough they do excellent. Upon my research (???) and psyche analysis i found the reason to be two fold.1)homesickness/cultural change 2)feeling of settlement in life.
A further deep analysis show that settlement mean marriage as the top priority and then a permanent job. Only a few opt for jobs abroad and many say " i want to settle in India Pa...."
When my turn came...iam >30 yrs old and obviously in line for the second option i said above.
While many people dont know what a PDF is....convincing the bride/bridegrooms parents are difficult to get a marriage fixed. "is it a job? is it permanent? is it transferable?" howlong?
all such qns come...!! Most parents dont accept it as a JOB (eventhough it is a kind of ...but a temporary one...) and how wil they get their marriage fixed then????
I could see some pdfs' get married but fly back to home after a year. Its also a kind of longggggggggg...honey moon abroad sometimes!!!
u do the same research as u did in the phd days and now the tenure is short ...say 1-2.x yrs...!!
To get a job in India at IITs and NITs u shud have minimum of 1-2 PDFs done.
So...what are pdfs? what they r really doing?what is their future? Y shud one do PDF? cant you settle without PDF? This is my tyrrocininc PDF...if you could help me in answering then please !!!

Hai machis and machans
this is my first ever blog to be written.(actually yet to know whats a 'blog')
but think a kind of xchange platform.

me now in last sem of research in chemistry. Not feeling interested the way i do it.but always feel thisty to have it.some times like dog eating half here and half there.
but manytimes my idea works for others and not for me.
Looks like i do all this to have some prof degree for me.shameful!!
Any way time has made me to learn a lot and i beleive NATURE IS THE UNBEATABLE SCIENTIST ever ever ever!! many times think i do it just as a course work. but certainly i can do it better if i am sincere.
